My Translating Corner
Chapter Index

When he‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍ opened his eyes again, he was still in a corridor. This corridor looked like the outside of a Brain laboratory, thousands of miles away from the orphanage. The ability of spacetime travel was exceptionally difficult to master; he still struggled to accurately locate the place he wanted to go.

An Yu was about to leave when his gaze suddenly caught the calendar on the wall.

Winter Solstice, 2138.

His consciousness, which was about to withdraw, suddenly paused. Winter Solstice 2138, Qin Zhilu was sixteen and briefly blinded by a laboratory accident. But that day was also the turning point where he stepped out of mania and gloom. It was the second-to-last door locked deep in his memory, the one that was never pushed open in the end.

An Yu’s heart trembled. He walked slowly down the corridor to that door and tried to unlock it using Qin Zhilu’s administrator password.

The mechanical door silently slid open—

A thin body on the experiment table was twitching uncontrollably. Blindness had caused the inner demons Qin Zhilu harbored after killing his family to explode completely. He struggled violently, the restraints leaving deep bruises on his limbs. Gasping breaths, laced with tears and a sense of impending death, echoed through the lab.

It was a beast that had already fallen into despair and was prepared to jump into the abyss.

When An Yu entered, the boy must have heard the footsteps, but he didn’t stop for a moment; instead, his struggling grew more ferocious.

“I beg you, Mr. Researcher!” The young Qin Zhilu stared at the ceiling with vacant eyes as tears kept streaming down. “Kill me. Do not let me exist anymore. I am not worthy, nor can I continue to live in this world. I…”

He muttered without stopping, like a madman talking to himself. At times pleading, weeping, and the next moment turning to curses. An Yu’s mind was in turmoil as he stood helplessly by the table, wanting only to help him calm down.

Restraints cut painfully into the skin; An Yu knew this better than anyone.

But he had no idea what to do. In the end, he could only instinctively reach out and, just as the Commander usually soothed him, placed his hand on the young Qin Zhilu’s head.

The frantic person fell silent instantly, and his voice calmed down at the same time.

“—You’re not my researcher?”

Qin Zhilu actually perceived the difference in the palm. An Yu immediately withdrew his hand and turned to leave in a panic. The octopus chibi in the cartoon had already illustrated that spacetime travel was different from the memory regression of before; everything he did in spacetime travel would truly affect the future. He couldn’t act recklessly.

“Who are you?”

The young Qin Zhilu pursued the question behind him, his voice still trembling uncontrollably. “Are you the one coming to dispose of me? I’ve never gone blind from an experiment before. You found signs of aberration in the analysis, didn’t you?”

“No.” An Yu finally couldn’t help but speak, looking back at the pale boy. “You’re fine. Nothing will happen to you. The blindness… it will get better in a few days.”

“You’re lying. This blindness was sudden. The researchers said Brain isn’t sure if it’s temporary or permanent. How could you know?”

Hearing this, the chaotic emotions in An Yu’s mind suddenly calmed down.

He turned around and said gently, “Because I know more than the researchers. I am not from here.”

He stood in a daze for a long time until the young Qin Zhilu called him several times before he came back to his senses.

The young Qin Zhilu pursed his lips and said nothing, his vacant eyes staring in the direction of An Yu’s voice.

“Based on…” An Yu’s thoughts paused for a moment. He leaned down and whispered in the boy’s ear, “Based on the fact that I know you weren’t certain if Qin Zhishi had mutated when you killed her.”

“A turning point…” The young Qin Zhilu lost focus for a moment. “Is it a turning point for humanity?”

“Where is he now? Is he safe? There are many aberrant tides outside lately. If he is vital to the fate of humanity, he can apply for protection from the Black Tower.”

An Yu coaxed him softly, “He is in a remote corner. He will survive with all his might. When the destined time comes, he will appear.”

“Then how will I recognize him?”

An Yu paused for a moment, looking down at his own reflection on the floor.

“Maybe he will be the first person to hug you.”

“A hug…” The young Qin Zhilu was stunned for a moment, murmuring, “Indeed, no one has ever hugged me. It seems you truly do have supernatural knowledge…”

An Yu looked at him and said softly, “There will be one. He will take the initiative to appear before your eyes.”

“He knows me?” Qin Zhilu asked in a low voice.

“He will know you sooner or later.” An Yu curled his lips. “Be a little gentler with him. Don’t bully him until he cries.”

Hearing this, the young Qin Zhilu hesitated. “He cries a lot? Can someone whose will isn’t strong become humanity’s turning point?”

“Well…” An Yu thought about it. “He can. Do not underestimate a fragile rabbit.”

“What a strange metaphor.” The young Qin Zhilu frowned. After a moment, he asked again, “Alright. Other than waiting, what else can I do for humanity?”

An Yu gazed at him for a long time and softly said, “Follow your own emotions and your heart.”

The young Qin Zhilu looked a bit dejected, staring vacantly into the air. “But it’s hard for me to follow my emotions… I never have.”

An Yu felt a stir in his mind. “Then, at least once in this life, follow your own feelings.”

“When?”

“You decide for yourself. I have to go.” An Yu turned around as he spoke, but he suddenly stopped at the door.

His cognition was still gradually awakening in his consciousness, and he was continuously uncovering the truth of time.

A sentence was on the tip of his tongue. An Yu took a deep breath and changed his words: “No. Use the snowstorm.”

“What?” the boy on the experiment table asked immediately.

An Yu said, “Use the snowstorm as a signal. When the sky is full of heavy snow, follow your heart just once.”

“But it snows every day outside…”

“It doesn’t matter.” An Yu briefly smiled and pressed down the door handle. “You will recognize it when the time comes.”
