As the‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍ car started, An Yu remembered to buckle his seatbelt. In a glance, he froze. The clock hanging outside the church was still ticking quietly—20:44. And at that moment, the time on the car’s screen was also 20:44.

If he remembered correctly, the Commander had said it was  20:43 before entering the church. And it had taken at least a minute for them to leave the church and get into the car and say these few words. This meant that inside the church, time had indeed completely stopped.

“Have you heard of Molly?” Qin Zhilu suddenly asked.

An Yu’s body jolted, his thoughts snapped back. He gripped the terminal in his pocket. “No.”

“No?” Qin Zhilu looked at him with a hint of helplessness. “She’s on the outer wall of the building opposite the bakery. Yan Xi told me you’ve been integrating well into Main City life. Is this what he defines as ‘well’?”

An Yu belatedly realized the Commander was just making casual conversation, and he had accidentally gotten Yan Xi in trouble. He could only force a stiff smile and keep quiet.

“AI technology isn’t new. Brain and Black Tower have already applied this technology maturely in the biological, communication, and armament fields. It’s just that in the virtual idol field, this is the first time such a perfect creation has appeared,” Qin Zhilu said casually. “There’s also a trial version of an AI app now. You can easily create a character with simple operations. You can play with it too. Let it talk to you more to practice your chatting skills.”

An Yu gripped his terminal tighter, looking at the tip of his nose. “I don’t know how to fiddle with these things, Commander.”

“You could make one based on Billy. He talks a lot.”

An Yu was silent for a moment. “Talking a lot causes a lot of anxiety.”

Qin Zhilu merely chuckled. “It’s up to you. I just thought of it.”

An Yu turned from the window side of his seat. Through the gap, Codex gave him a look of lingering fear.

When the three returned to Codex’s room, the long table was already crowded with people.

Shen Yang was tying Chao Wu’s hair. Her skin was fair, her blue eyes as serene as the deep sea and her slender waist held a sense of strength. Her long hair fell to her waist, almost embracing herself. Like Chao Wu, her hair also seemed to subtly move in response to some tidal rhythm. But Chao Wu’s hair was small, rapid twitches, like hurried breaths, while Shen Yang’s long hair undulated like a deep-sea current, slow and powerful. She spread her five fingers, holding a hair tie, and looked up at An Yu with a kind smile. “Nice to meet you. I’m Shen Yang. You can also call me Celia, as you prefer.”

“Hello,” An Yu secretly opened Shen Yang’s profile.

An Yu nodded unsurprised. People who could eat their fill were usually gentle; it was inevitable.

“I want red wine,” Zhu Tao finally found the bottle of wine. A grapevine emerged from his shoulder, deftly prying open the cork.

Zhu Tao licked the wine from the corner of his lips and hugged the bottle tighter. “You can’t drink it.”

An Yu sat next to Qin Zhilu. Codex sat beside him, answering everyone’s curious questions. According to his observations, while Codex was easily embarrassed and shy, his communication with people was unhindered, and the barrage of questions clearly didn’t cause him any stress.

An Yu liked to eat meat. This was a delicacy he rarely got in District 53. After coming to the Main City, various meats had become his second staple food besides bread.

Flame said nonchalantly, “It can only be non-biological abnormality. Humanity has too few existing samples, so of course, we can’t find a matching frequency waveband. However, haven’t the reconnaissance troops already gone to investigate? Let’s wait for the results.”

“Where’s your supervised subject?” Qin Zhilu asked.

Hibernation has a new mission. The swamp in District 62 is contaminated by Aberrants and urgently needs purification before the abnormality spreads. It happens to be her specialty.”

Qin Zhilu said, “I was asking about Lumen.”

“He’s showering. Almost done.”

Qin Zhilu nodded, not probing further. “By the way, the Black Tower wants the Yan family to take over the AI industry. Have they talked to you?”

“Yes, I’ll have my subordinates discuss investment cooperation,” Flame poured a small glass of strong liquor, whose label An Yu couldn’t understand, and gulped it down. “I know what the higher-ups are worried about, but that small AI studio is very timid and has strict self-regulation regarding information compliance. They’ve already built multiple constraint principles into Molly’s underlying algorithm. First, no harm to humans; second, obey instructions without harming all of humanity; third, obey self-destruct keys unconditionally.”

Qin Zhilu pondered for a moment, then hummed, “Mm,” and asked no more.

An Yu scooped his fifth bowl of meat. Just as he was about to shove it into his mouth, Qin Zhilu leaned over and whispered, “Not full yet?”

An Yu’s chopsticks froze. “Still okay.”

He secretly opened his terminal and forcibly moved the computer away from the chibi octopus.

The chibi octopus raised an eyebrow coldly at him through the screen.

You seem to be getting increasingly rude.

An Yu ignored his criticism and typed under the table:
Commander, if I eat a lot at the high-level officers’ gathering and can’t join the conversation, will it displease you?
The chibi octopus didn’t reply immediately. He just stared at An Yu through the screen, his eyes gradually softening from indifference and annoyance.
No.
Although I do hope you can control your eating habits, that’s purely out of concern for illness caused by eating too fast.
I want you to eat without restraint, to be able to believe you will never again face the threat of hunger.
This is a promise I gave you long ago.
As for whether you can join the conversation, that’s not important either. Social skills and communication ability are two different things. I have no rigid expectations for your social skills, nor do I believe it’s necessary to force you to improve your communication ability.
An Yu looked up and saw Qin Zhilu just sitting back down from where he stood up. He took away the bowl of red meat in front of him and replaced it with a bowl of fish, shrimp and shellfish.

“You need a richer source of protein. Xi De said you’re having trouble gaining muscle.”

An Yu sighed in relief, lowered his head, and shoveled two huge scallops into his mouth, chewing heartily on the chewy texture.

Flame watched them from the side for a while, then chuckled, casually opening his terminal and saying to Qin Zhilu, “They’re eager to sell that fool-proof app now. The trial version’s algorithm precision is already very high. Have you tried it?”

Qin Zhilu nodded calmly. “I uploaded my daily conversations with Corner for it to learn.”

An Yu’s frantic eating movements paused.

“And then?” Flame raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

“Analysis failed.” Qin Zhilu’s expression was calm. He reached over the many strong liquors only to then pour himself only half a glass of plain water. “An Yu’s words and actions were deemed random, lawless, and unpredictable. The AI abandoned its learning and advised me to contact the developer and call for the central algorithm where Molly resides. I refused and forced it to learn.”

Flame glanced at An Yu. An Yu immediately felt like he was being stared at by a brutal predator and silently moved his bowl further away.
