[Concubine Dormitory Area.]
To compensate for the psychological trauma inflicted upon the omegas during the previous week’s “Hunt” by the nobles, the Tyrant Kaide made an uncharacteristically generous decision: he resumed dinner service.
The palace meals remained lackluster.
Perhaps because the weather was growing colder and fresh fruit was harder to come by, even the previous half-apple portion per person had been canceled.
The Etiquette Officer, however, watching the increasingly gaunt little birds and little seafolk, beamed with pleasure. His Majesty preferred soft, weak, non-aggressive omegas. When it came time for the month-end selection for sleeping duties, he, the supervisor, would surely be handsomely rewarded.
But his eyelid twitched as his gaze suddenly locked onto a corner of the cafeteria.
Someone had actually piled their plate high with food and was shoveling down carbs right under his nose?
This is outrageous!
The Etiquette Officer immediately ordered the Concubine Dorm Supervisor to clear his plate and enforce discipline.
This dorm supervisor was also a recent arrival.
Word was that during the “Hunt Night,” someone mixed in with the concubines had utterly massacred the marine noble alphas. Their methods were colder than a master fishmonger who’d killed fish for ten years at RT-Mart, so much so that even after a week, some unlucky nobles still hadn’t left the treatment pods.
Kaide had been furious upon hearing this, feeling he had lost face, and was determined to find out which birds had been taking advantage of the chaos.
Strangely, however, the entire palace surveillance system had malfunctioned that night. When checked, the recordings were completely blank.
Regarding this, the Internal Affairs Secretary, Heinz, had sincerely stated, “With the continuous blizzards, it’s inevitable that the airborne signals would have issues. For better management, I suggest dispatching additional personnel to the concubine area. This will also make it easier to secretly identify the culprit.”
Kaide had immediately approved his suggestion.
Thus, Lin He, the only omega among Heinz’s subordinates, was assigned for this ‘public duty, private purpose.’
When Lin He was summoned by the Chamberlain, he paused, hid the reluctance at the corner of his mouth, and walked straight over. Without looking back, he quickly snatched away the eagle-owl young master’s plate.
“Hoo-grr-hoo!!” Sava let out an angry growl. If North hadn’t been desperately holding him back, he would have lunged and pecked him.
Lin He executed a swift dodge, his slender legs, typical of a wading bird, quickly carried him outside the cafeteria. He leaned against the wall, relieved, and meticulously typed a message to his superior: [Surveillance Target Currently Secure]
The terminal buzzed; it was a direct call. Lin He didn’t have time to complain about his boss being an exploitative maniac and he quickly answered. The first words on the other end were: “Show me what he’s doing.”
Lin He had no choice but to turn on the camera, stealthily hold it near the cafeteria door, and aim it at Sava.
“Cheeks puffed out, head feathers ruffled up… he’s angry,” the soft, sinister voice sighed. “So cute. I really want to stuff my tentacles in his mouth right now and feed him until he’s completely full.”
Lin He: “…Er, is this also a required task?”
“Stuffing tentacles? Oh, no need for that. The risk factor is too high. Not suitable for a rookie fresh out of agent training like you.”
Lin He’s face was blank. He thought to himself that if he hadn’t been in such a hurry to take leave, go back home, and marry his partner, he wouldn’t have taken on this mess.
Helping the unseen leader of MI7 spy on his paramour.
Suddenly, a third voice cut into the communication. The deputy secretary called out, “Lord Heinz, are you free right now? The One has finally agreed to meet with you.”
Heinz’s eyes remained glued to the young master on the video feed. He swung the toe of his leather shoe while sitting in his office chair and pleasantly asked, “Who?”
The deputy secretary lowered his gaze. “The One.”
Heinz’s expression slightly changed. He told Lin He, “Continue surveillance,” and then ruthlessly hung up.
As an excellent agent, Lin He decisively deleted the information he had just overheard. His boss had started in espionage and intelligence, and now he was embedded within the civil secretariat. His methods were dirty as hell. He held enough blackmail material on high-ranking officials to fill a dozen warehouses; pulling out just one box could throw the entire political situation into chaos.
Now he was hitching his wagon to “The One”… who knew what kind of storm this would stir up…
Lin He looked through the corridor window at the red evening sky. The north wind howled outside, signaling an impending blizzard.
Meanwhile, Sava, under the pretext of bringing food to his “weak, sick roommate who tripped and hurt himself,” vaulted over the serving counter with one hand, snatched the ladle from the dispenser robot auntie, and scraped out the last bucket of congee.
The robot auntie, ladle-less, remained steadfastly at her post, executing her program and shaking her empty hand once every ten seconds.
North came over and peeked in, clicking his tongue. “This is so plain! Isn’t it supposed to be preserved egg and pork congee? Where’s the meat? Sava, use the big ladle, try scraping the bottom harder.”
Sava held up the sticky ladle, annoyed. “I’ve already scraped the bottom clean! Who cares? Plain is plain. Let the damned bird eat it or not.”
Despite his words, he still snagged a large bowl of pickles. Ignoring the Chamberlain who was frantically pinching the philtrum between his nose and lip, Sava dragged the stainless steel bucket, clanging all the way, and strode right past Lin He.
Lin He: “…” Is it too late to resign now?
Back in the dorm, Sava sent a message:
This time, Bai Ling’s side replied quickly.
Sava let out a yelp and sat bolt upright in his bunk, nearly hitting his head on the railing. “Damn! You stinking little bird! How many guardians did you reel in?”
